This week's 6 Mix comes from the Trojan Sound System. Performing in the classic Sound System style, the Trojan Sound System represent Trojan Records - the legendary stable of artists and producers such as Bob Marley, Lee Scratch Perry, Gregory Isaacs, Dillinger, Dennis Alcapone and many more.
With MC's including Brother Culture, General Slater and Tippa Irie and frequently performing alongside the all time greats from the reggae world such as Horace Andy, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Alcapone and Dr Alimantado.
Earl Gateshead began DJing in Brixton in 1979, and has worked as selector and MC with Cutty Ranks, Big Youth, Dr Alimantado and Dennis Alcapone amongst many others. His reggae nights at Plastic People have received Worldwide recognition. Currently, Earl is reggae resident at Fabric on Saturdays, and regularly guests at London's Secret Sundayz. Earl is also a prolific DJ on the dance scene, having worked closely with Gilles Peterson (responsible for the legendary Lift night at Blue Note), setting up the first Broken Beat night with I G Culture, as well as working with Mr Fingers and MCs such as Mr C and Maxi Jazz.
Daddy Ad comes from Roots and Reality Sound System and has worked with Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Alcapone, Anthony 'Gunshot' Johnson and Dillinger amongst others. He has a background as a drummer and is also responsible for the sound system's sound effects as well as selecting alongside Earl. He previously published infamous music and fashion magazines such as Jockey Slut and Sleazenation and has DJed internationally for over 15 years. Ad also works throughout Europe with the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown.
